RAYMOND LAPAN - BURLINGTON - Raymond Thomas "Ray" Lapan, 57, formerly of Grove Street in Brattleboro, died unexpectedly early Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care. Ray was born in Brattleboro on July 22, 1956, the son of Richard E. and Ruth (Noonan) Lapan. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro, attending Saint Michael's Parochial School and later Brattleboro Union High School. A resident of Burlington for the past 25 years, Ray had been employed as a custodian for a local janitorial service. Previously, he worked in the construction business. While growing up in Brattleboro, Ray was very active with Boy Scouts of America Troop #405 where he served as a patrol leader under former scoutmaster, Gordon Nichols. He loved the outdoors, included hiking and camping. Of his other leisure time activities, Ray enjoyed music, playing his guitar and writing poetry. A man of faith, Ray was active in his church in Williston, Living Hope Christian Church, and also enjoyed attending Bible studies. He was a man of deep faith and was very proud of his Irish heritage. Survivors include his mother, Ruth Lapan of Brattleboro; three brothers, Patrick of Brattleboro, Richard M. of Wolcott, and James of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Worsman of Brattleboro, and Bridget Devlin of Putney; and four nieces, six nephews, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Terrace Street in Brattleboro, with committal services and burial to follow in the Lapan family lot in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery.
