SHELLIE COOTWARE Obituary

SHELLIE (GERT) SORRELL MCMAHON COOTWARE ESSEX JUNCTION - Shellie was born on March 20, 1962 in Burlington. She lost her 14 month battle with Lung Cancer on March 3, 2011, in the home of her sister Pattie Russell, surrounded by her family. After graduating from Winooski High School, Shellie married Michael McMahon of Winooski, worked part-time and raised two beautiful daughters. In 1997, Shellie and her daughters moved to Ft. Myers/Cape Coral, Fla., where she lived until June 2010. Shellie got a second chance at happiness, in June 2004 when they first met and knew they would be together forever. Then in April 2009 she married Stuart Cootware<$>he was undoubtedly, the love of her life! Shellie leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend, Stuart Cootware. Stuart has been extraordinary with his love, dedication and care for Shellie, especially while she battled cancer. He supported her 100%, always there to care for her every need and never losing hope that she would recover and beat this disease. She also leaves behind two incredible daughters, Tricia and Lindsey McMahon, along with their fiancées, Derek Phelps and Lee Rabidoux; as well as her treasured grandsons, Austin Michael and Garrett William, all of Colchester; a very special sister and parttime mother, Patti Russell and her husband Dan Roberts; brothers, B.J. and Dan Sorrell; a sister, Candy Rice and husband Tim Rice, all of Colchester; a brother, Michael Sorrell and wife Judy, of Ft. Myers; a sister, Suzanne Gregoire of Dunedin, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts; her best friend and special niece, Paula Warren, they grew up as sisters and were inseparable; father-inlaw, Harold Cootware; sister-in-laws, Sheri Loren and husband Mark, and Stephanie Nygaard and husband James; brother-inlaws, Spencer Cootware and Steven Cootware, all of Fort Myers, Fla.; and three stepchildren, Scottie, Joshua and Courtney Cootware, all of Florida. She was predeceased by her mother, Ruthie Sorrell; her twin brother, Shawn; and three older brothers, Ricky, Jimmy and Robbin Sorrell. Shellie was a Mom, first and foremost, but loved being a Nana. Shellie had an amazing relationship with her sister Patti; it was more like mother-daughter than sisters. Patti has always been "the rock" for Shellie, as she moved through the daily struggles that life can sometimes bring. Words cannot describe the loss Patti feels, now and for always. At Shellie's request, funeral arrangements will be private. She will be buried in St. Francis Cemetery. Finally<$> she gets to spend eternity with Shawn. Please keep the memory of Shellie alive through her husband, children and grandsons. Sweetheart, Mommy, Mama, Nana, you will be forever missed, and always in our hearts! In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Shellie's honor to her American Cancer Society's, Relay For Life Team, Shellie's Angels.
