SYLVIA ELLEN NEARY BURLINGTON - Sylvia Ellen Neary, formerly of Burlington, died on Saturday May 15, 2010, at the age of 75. For the past few years, Sylvia resided at The Arbors in Shelburne. There she was known for her smile and her cheerful disposition. She greeted everyone saying "Hey Sunshine". Sylvia was born Dec. 25, 1934, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of Francis and Catherine Cook Glenn. She was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. Sylvia was married on Feb. 4, 1956 to Howard E. Neary at St Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady. Sylvia moved to Vermont when her husband was transferred with General Electric in 1957. Here she formed many dear friendships which she cherished. Sylvia dedicated her life to raising her family. She enjoyed canning and freezing produce from her husband's garden, spent many hours supporting her son and husband in their involvement with Burlington Youth Hockey, and enjoyed numerous other activities with her children and grandchildren. She always looked forward to their two weeks every summer camping at Roger's Rock campground on Lake George with family and extended family. Here many happy memories were made. Sylvia loved crafts and was involved in a Home den group where she made many beautiful things. She especially enjoyed making quilts, ornaments and other gifts for her family. In her later years, Sylvia and her husband volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels in Burlington. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Howard; and their four children, Daniel of Williston, Timothy and his wife, Carol, of Essex, Julie Dubuque of Jericho, and Glen of Hopkinton, Mass. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Scott and Marissa Neary, Jack, Ben and Lauren Dubuque, and Alex and Jake Neary; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her two brothers, Robert and Charles; and sister, Elizabeth. Visiting hours will be Wednesday May 19 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ready Funeral Home located at 934 North Avenue in Burlington. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12 p.m. at St Mark's Parish 1251 North Avenue. Internment will follow immediately at Resurrection Park 200 Hinesburg Road South Burlington. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, compassion and caring that was given to Sylvia by the staff at The Arbors. For those who wish, a memorial in Sylvia's memory may be made to The Arbors at 687 Harbor Road, Shelburne Vermont.
