WILLIAM R. GARRETT - COLCHESTER - William R. Garrett, 73, Colchester, died at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington He was born on June 29, 1940, in West Plains, Mo., one of three children born to Floreaca and Raymond Garrett. He was united in marriage on June 4, 1961, to Linda Henry. He attended William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., for his undergraduate degree, Yale Divinity School for his divinity degree, and Drew University in Madison, N.J., for his doctoral degree in Sociology of Religion. For most of his life, William lived in Colchester where he was a professor of sociology at St. Michael's College. He greatly enjoyed teaching, presenting papers at conferences in the United States and abroad, as well as conducting two week courses in Paris, France, between the fall and spring academic semesters for many years. He is survived by his wife, Linda Garrett, of 52 years; son, Brent Garrett; sister, Joyce and husband, Perry Prewett; and brother, Earl Garrett. He was preceded in death by son, Christopher Todd Garrett in 1992. A memorial service in celebration of the life of William Garrett will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Burlington. Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 So.
