YVONNE "POLLY" SISTERS - FERRISBURGH - Yvonne R. "Polly" Sisters of Ferrisburgh died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2013, in Vergennes Respite Care Home in Vergennes. She was born March 19, 1927, in Addison, daughter of Sylvester and Elmira Roberts. She grew up in Ferrisburgh on her parents' farm and graduated from Vergennes High School in 1943. She immediately entered Castleton Teachers College on a fast-track teaching program during World War II, graduating in late 1944. She also assisted Earl Collins as mail carrier in Vergennes during this period. She was a Civil Air Patrol spotter during the war, and a lifelong member of the Ferrisburgh Methodist Church and the Ferrisburgh Grange No. 539, where she met her husband, Paul Sisters. They were married on Aug. 13, 1945, and subsequently had two children, Susan B. and Paul Thomas. As a farmer's wife and teacher with two young children her life was full and blessed. Polly loved to cook for family gatherings and was known for her delicious Parker House rolls, special fruit salad, pies and pot roast. She taught for many years in Ferrisburgh and after leaving full-time teaching continued to substitute teach in surrounding towns in Addison County. Polly always had a smile and a hug ready for anyone who needed love and reassurance, and was accepting of everyone and sought to instill that quality in her children and grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She and her husband, Paul, loved taking bus trips across the country to our national parks and into the Canadian Rockies. She loved making new friends wherever they went. She is survived by her children, Paul Thomas, and Susan and husband, Louis Emilo Jr.; her brothers, William Roberts and wife, Doris, and Jerry Roberts and wife, Beverly; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters- and brothers-in-law. Polly was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 2011; brothers, Sonny Roberts and Larry Roberts; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. There will be a memorial service in the spring, allowing all immediate family to be present. A special thanks to VRC staff who gave both Polly and Paul so much love during their last years; and to Addison Home Health for making her last days so comfortable. Memorial contributions, in conjunction with her lifelong support of those less fortunate, may be made to the Vermont Food Bank.
