SIGRID E. AKERS TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - Sigrid E. Akers, 94, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., passed away July 5, 2011. She was born Aug. 4, 1916, in Arlington, Mass., daughter of the late Louis and Sigrid Moller. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother to her loving family. She was a successful businesswoman, artist, and decorator and lived her life to its fullest extent. She owned and managed a decorating and gift shop in Groton, Mass. for several years before moving to Vermont in 1964. In Vermont she worked with her husband in developing Strattonwald, a custom built ski chalet community in Windhall. She retired to Florida in 1970. Sigrid was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States. She loved to play golf, and enjoyed being an active member of numerous social, civic and church organizations. She was predeceased by her husbands, Keith Smith, Norman Fair, Harold Hoffman and Robert Akers; and her three brothers, Gustave, Louis and Richard Moller. She is survived by her son, Keith Smith and his wife, Catherine, of West Haven, Conn.; her daughter, Carole-lee Horton and her husband, Robert, of Florida and North Hero; four grandchildren, Christopher Horton of Orlando, Fla., Susan Horton of Essex, Karen Mooney and Kelly Douglass; and five great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Bennington at a date to be determined in late summer.
