KATHLEEN P. BARRETT - SHELBURNE - Kathleen P. Barrett, 88, of Shelburne, died on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at her home at The Shores at Shelburne Bay. She was born in New York, N.Y., on March 30, 1926, the daughter of the late George and Katherine (Morrissey) Cooke. She was married to Richard S. Barrett on Dec. 9, 1944, in Jamaica, N.Y. He predeceased her by only five days, on April 8, 2014. Kathleen grew up in Jamaica, N.Y., and lived for 38 years in Massapequa, where she and Richard raised their three children. She and Richard retired to Florida, where they lived for 23 years before moving to Shelburne in 2010. She loved family gatherings, especially outdoor barbecues filled with lively discussions of politics. She was also an avid sports fan, in particular the New York Mets and Florida Marlins baseball teams. Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kling and husband, Gary, of Essex Junction; four grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Kling, and Christopher and Emily Barrett; and daughter-in-law, Paula Barrett of West Hempstead, N.Y. She was predeceased by two sons, Richard and James Barrett; sister, Mary Will; and brother, George Cooke. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Shores at Shelburne Bay for their care, support and friendship over the past three years. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington. Visiting hours will also be on Thursday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be held later this spring at the convenience of the family.
