RAYMOND LAVALLEE Obituary
RAYMOND LAVALLEE - WINOOSKI - Raymond Lavallee, 82, a lifelong resident of Winooski, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 10, 2014, surrounded by loving family, following an extended illness of Alzheimer's disease. Raymond was born in Winooski on June 9, 1931, the son of Edward and Alice (Richards) Lavallee. He was educated at St. Louis Convent, St. Francis Xavier School and Cathedral High School. Raymond was married in Hyde Park on June 23, 1951, to Carlene Grace (Earle) Lavallee. He was employed for many years as an optician at Bausch & Lomb, the Optical Center, and retired from the office of Dr. Floyd Lapidow. Raymond loved music, hunting at deer camp, and spending time with family and friends. He was a musician, a master craftsman, and jack-of-all trades. His fondness for music led him to design and build his own steel guitar. He began playing electric guitar at age 15 for the country music band Roland and the Happy Ramblers. For several years following, he continued to play with musicians Roland and Nettie Pigeon and Joyce and Hubert Hemenway. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carlene Lavallee; 10 children and spouses, Diane and Jack Stromme, Carol Lavallee, Ronald and Linda Lavallee, Linda and Rick Frank, Reginald and Donna Lavallee, Bruce Lavallee, Michael Lavallee, Brian and Kelly Lavallee, Theresa Bachand, and Suzanne Lavallee; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Fregeau, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Lavallee; and brother-inlaw, Jerome Fregeau. Raymond's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the VNA and Hospice of the Champlain Valley for their care and kindness, as well as to Dr. Brenda Healy for her many house calls and very caring approach. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to Raymond's niece, Judy Granger, for her help and support. Per Raymond's request, services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or Hospice of the Champlain Valley, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446. Online condolences can be shared at www.lavignefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski.
