JAMES L. LEARY - BURLINGTON - James L. Leary passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 31, 2014, after a long illness. He was born on April 27, 1934, in Burlington, the son of Lionel and Phyllis (Wright) Leary. Jim served three years in the US Army. He married Ann McCullough in June 1957, and later graduated from St. Michael's College, Class of 1959. He became President of Leary's Insurance Agency upon his father's death in 1967. Jim spent much time in the summer at camp Edgewater on Lake Champlain fishing, boating, spending time with family and friends, and in the winter at hunting camp Shamrock. Jim worked hard to provide for his wife and eight children. He spent many a weekend working with friends to complete various handyman choirs and remodeling projects on their homes. Then these same families would celebrate their accomplishments together by having large gatherings with "lots of kids," "lots of food" and "lots of love"! Jim is survived by his wife, Ann, of 57 years; children, David, Brian (Barb), Steven, John (Colleen), Kevin, Sarah, and Peter (Tammy); daughter-in-law, Carrie; sister, Theresa Lemaire; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Phyllis Billups; brother, John Leary; and son, Timothy Leary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Essex Center. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Burlington. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, 68 Pinecrest Dr. in Essex Junction. Online condolences may be sent to www.readyfuneral.com.
