ANITA EDWARDS LAVALETTE - SHELBURNE - Anita Edwards Lavalette, a longtime resident of Shelburne, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a short illness, at the age of 90. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Jan. 26, 1924, the tenth child of the late Harold and Irene (Pike) Edwards. Her family moved to Granby, Quebec, and later moved to Shelburne when she was 13, and lived in what is now known as the "Variety House" at the Shelburne Museum. She graduated from Shelburne High School and held various office positions in the area. The most important part of her life was the love of her family; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved gardening and was often seen working with her daughter in the garden. She enjoyed the fruits of the garden, and daily walks around town chatting with neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Frank Lavalette, in 1990. Anita is survived by her daughter, Elaine Bacon and husband, Thomas, of Shelburne; grandchildren, Sarah Carusone and husband, Louis, and Andrew Bacon and wife, Emily; great-grandchildren, Kylie Ann Bacon, and Benjamin Louis Carusone; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. At Anita's request there will be no visiting hours. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Shelburne Village Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of the Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Anita's memory may be made to Shelburne Rescue, PO Box 254, Shelburne, VT 05482; or the Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446.
