FAITH G. EMERSON - SHELBURNE - Faith G. Emerson, R.N. (inactive), a resident of Shelburne Bay in Shelburne, died on July 10, 2014. She was born in 1927 in New York City, the daughter of the late Harold C. and Lucy (MacGregor) Emerson. After completing high school in Bridgeton, N.J., she enrolled at Ursinus College for two years transferring to the Cornell University, New York Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated in September 1950. She accepted a position as a public health nurse in Salem County in rural southern New Jersey moving after four years to a position with the Department of Public Health and Welfare in San Mateo County, California. Three years later, she entered graduate school earning a Master's Degree in curriculum and teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, and accepted a faculty appointment in the then School of Nursing at the University of Vermont in 1959. She was active in University and professional organizations including two five-year appointments to the Vermont State Board of Nursing serving the second five years as President. She served her last few years in administrative positions in the School of Nursing retiring in 1992. Faith is survived by her sister-in-law, Orelyn Emerson of Jericho; her nieces, Laurie Emerson of Lebanon, Maine, and Ellie Emerson Brady, her husband, Patrick Brady, and their daughter, Emma Brady, of South Burlington. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard (Shad) MacGregor Emerson; and a dear friend, Bobbie Schwalb. Faith's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Shelburne Bay Senior Living, the VNA, and Holly Reed for all their care and support. Faith expressed having felt fortunate to have found a home in Vermont and a career in nursing which she found personally and professionally rewarding. She deemed it a privilege to have worked with students and highly valued her relationships with colleagues and friends all of which enriched her life. At her request, there will be no services.
