REV. CANON DONALD E. BOYER - BARNARD, Vt. - Rev. Canon Donald E. Boyer, 80, died at his home on July 15, 2014, of natural causes, with his wife, Marcia, at his side. He was born on March 6, 1934, in Worcester, Mass., the son of Ernest and Willamina (Clarke) Boyer. He was a graduate of Westboro High School, received his BA from Sewanee and his bachelor of Theology from Berkley Divinity at Yale. In 1958, he served as 3rd cerate at St. Paul's Church in Burlington, as Chaplain at St. Anselm Chapel, University of Vermont, was Canon to the Ordinary and became Dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul and in 1983 became rector of St. James Church in Woodstock where he served until 1999. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his four children, Elizabeth, Grace, John, and Donald; a brother, Norman; his former wife, Linda; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides his family he loved books, music, and his cats. He longed for the glorious return of the British Empire. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 4 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Woodstock. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, Vt. The family would like to express their appreciation to Gail, Julie, Debra, Claude, Sherri, and Amy for their care of Donald during his last days.
