GERTRUDE ANNE RACHLIN SHELBURNE - Gertrude ("Trudy") Anne Rachlin, of Harbor Road, Shelburne, Vt., the beloved mother of four surviving children, died early on Tuesday morning after a brief illness. Trudy Rachlin was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1930, and came to the United States in the 1950s, where she met and married Robert D. Rachlin of Burlington. Trudy is survived by her four children and their spouses and eight grandchildren, Deborah T. McDonnell and her husband Steve McDonnell and their children John Liam and Keira of London, England, Paul I. Rachlin and his wife Patricia Rachlin and their children Matthew, Kristin, Timothy and Kelly of Tarrytown, N.Y., Rebecca S. Rachlin-Farnsworth and her husband Tom Farnsworth of Empire, Colo., and John N. Rachlin and his wife Cara Rachlin and their children Jack and Abigail of Holliston, Mass. Trudy lived for nearly half a century in Vermont, including 18 years in St. Johnsbury with her husband Robert D. Rachlin, from whom she was divorced, and 30 years as a resident of Shelburne. She was proud of her Irish heritage, and cherished the memories of growing up in literary Dublin in the 1930s and 40s. She had a strong wit, a sharp intellect, and loved deeply her family and friends, as we all loved her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., in St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Shelburne.
