JANE BASSI JACOBSON SHELBURNE - Jane Bassi Jacobson passed into our Lord's arms on May 22, in Vermont Respite House with her family at her side. Jane was born on Nov. 16, 1941, to James and Rita (Bessette) Bassi in Burlington, Vt. She was a graduate of Rice Memorial High School in 1960, and continued to volunteer while her sons attended Rice and continued to be a part of the alumni committee for years later. One of Jane's greatest achievements was being a Eucharistic Minister at St. Catherine of Siena where she has been a parishioner for the past 24 years and was also President of the Ladies of St. Catherine. She also served on the Parish Council. Jane's work experience was at the former General Electric Company where she worked as a secretary. She met and married the love of her life, Robert W. Jacobson, who predeceased her on May 19, 2006. Jane ran a daycare in her home for 25 years. Many of the families became part of our family. Jane was predeceased by her parents, James and Rita Bassi and grandparents, Arthur and Angeline Bessette; her brother Arthur Bassi; her uncle and aunt, Arthur and Marie Bessette; and her dearest aunt and close friend, Dorothy Barber. Jane was also predeceased by her in-laws, Howard and Glendora Jacobson of Guilderland, N.Y. Jane is survived by her beloved sons, Robert of Portsmouth, Va. and Joseph of Shelburne; by an uncle, Arthur (Uncle Pat) Barber; and by her cousins, Pam Bossi of Texas, Jim and Donata Bessette, St. Albans, and Jack Bessette of Cambridge. Jane is also survived by her in-laws, Howard (Bud) and Lynda Jacobson, Guilderland, N.Y., Elizabeth and Gary Bluto, St. Albans; and many nieces and nephews. Jane leaves many wonderful friends - too numerous to mention - however, we need to thank Janet Yantachka, Mary Ann Bonneau, and Susan Grimes for always being there for her, and especially when Dad was dying, Father Leo Bilodeau. Also, we must mention three families that Jane babysat for - they are Jane's Angels - Liam, Owen and Lily Donnelly, Carolyn and Andrew Snell, Ben Grimes, Jeffrey Thompson and last but by no means least, Caleigh Thompson, who Jane loved very much. Special thanks for the care given by the VT Respite House and Visiting Nurse Association. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jane's memory to the VNA/Hospice of the Champlain Valley, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446, or to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, May 24, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 25, at 9 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Shelburne. Interment will be at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington at the convenience of the family.
