MARGARET SAYLOR BURLINGTON, VT/ READING, PA - Margaret Harrell Saylor, 88, of Burlington, Vt. formerly of Reading, Pa., died peacefully at the Vermont Respite House on Feb. 26, 2010. She has lived at the Converse Home in Burlington for the last three years. Margaret was born in Elizabeth, N.J., the youngest daughter of Louise and George Harrell. She was an undergraduate at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. As she and her husband, John S. Saylor, Jr., raised their four children in Wyomissing Hills, Pa., Margaret was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Reading, Junior League, Southeast Ministry, nonprofit low income housing, Board member of the Reading Public Library, and the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.). Later in life she joined the Society of Friends of Reading, drawn to their interest in social action. The focus of Margaret's life was both her family and her caring for others. Many people were fortunate enough to benefit from her ongoing support. Exploring her spirituality was also important to her. She had a great love of the dogs in her life who brought her much comfort. Her family is deeply appreciative of the loving care of the staff of Gardenview at the Converse Home, as well as the compassionate hospice care of the staff at Vermont Respite House. She was so fortunate to be treated with such respect and support. She is survived by her four children, John Saylor and his spouse Sherry of Grapevine, Texas, Rebecca Brooks and her spouse Robert Pasco of Williston, Vt., Brian Saylor of Mohnton, Pa., and Sandra Seaman and her spouse Mark, of Wyomissing Hills, Pa. Six grandchildren also survive her, two of whom grew up in Williston, Vt., Victoria and Stefan Brooks. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, her two older sisters, and her son-inlaw, David Brooks, of Williston, Vt. A memorial service in Margaret's honor will be held on March 11, 2010, in Reading, Pa. Arrangements are in the care of Stephen Gregory Cremation Services of Shelburne, Vt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to A.R.E., 215 67th St., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451 or the Converse Home, 272 Church St., Burlington, Vt., 05401.
