RICHARD R. (DICK) KELLEY BURLINGTON - Richard R. (Dick) Kelley died on Sept. 6, 2011, the day after celebrating his 85th birthday with his family. Dick was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Albany, N.Y., to Frank and Rose (Dubie) Kelley. They moved to Burlington where he lived the rest of his life. He graduated from Cathedral High School and the University of Vermont. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II. Dick was employed at the Burlington Free Press for 35 years and retired in 1987 as Circulation Director. He was Secretary-Treasurer of the New England Association of Circulation Executives for 15 years and was honored by that group as Executive of the Year in 1986. He was an active member of St. Mark's Church for over 55 years and served over the years as Choir Member, Lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, Adult Server and a member of the Parish Council. Dick served the Third Degree Knights of Columbus as Recorder for Council #279 and as Comptroller for Fourth Degree Assembly 1148 for many years. He was an Inspector of Elections for Ward 4 for 15 years and for several years he was a volunteer at Fletcher Allen Medical Center. Dick was also a Guide and Guide Program Assistant at The Shelburne Museum for over 20 years, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Dick was a kind and gentle man who possessed a quiet strength and much courage. His family was the most important part of his life. We who loved him will forever miss this fine husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Elizabeth (Betty Brennan) Kelley, in 1977; and his stepdaughter, Michelle DuLong. Dick is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara Labrecque DuLong Kelley. He is also survived by his children, Kathleen (Katie) Kelley of Burlington, Colleen Brady and her husband, Peter, of Charlotte, Peter Kelley and his wife, Cathy, of Williston and Chris Kelley and his wife, Stephanie, of Avon, Conn.; and stepchildren, David DuLong and his wife, Sherry, of Westford and Renee Adams and her husband, Alec, of Duxbury. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, Mera KelleyYurdin, Devon Kelley- Yurdin, Taylor Brady, Rosie Brady, Siobhan Kelley, Liam Kelley, Wyatt Adams, Hayden Adams, Sean Kelley and Anna Elizabeth Kelley. He is also survived by a long time family friend, Ira Yurdin. The family wishes to thank Sister Marie Feeley, Dr. Thomas Peterson, Dr. Paul Unger and the staff at Vermont Center for Cancer Medicine and VNA Hospice for all their kind and compassionate care. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, in St. Mark's Church. Burial will be in the Kelley Dulong Plot in Lakeview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.
