HOWARD TAYLOR Obituary

HOWARD C. TAYLOR - JERICHO - Howard C. Taylor died at home on Oct. 23, 2012. He was 83. Howard was unique. We could talk of his many accomplishments: being part of the first crew to winter over at the South Pole, his years as Medical Examiner and as State Forensic Psychiatrist. We could mention his brilliant mind and sharp wit, or his love of frogs and his tendency to make odd and useful devices such as a rotating star-watching chair. Or we could keep it simple. He is gone and will be missed. Howard is survived by his wife, June Taylor; daughters, Jessie Taylor, Kate Taylor and Cyn Drinkwine; their spouses, Char Anderson and Don Drinkwine; grandsons, Rob, Zack, Adam and Clayton; and sister, Alice Day and her husband, Linc. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Schoen. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.

As the current over-winter physician at the South Pole, I just read about Dr.Taylor in the book 90 South by Pail Siple and wanted to see if he was still with us. Carrying on his legacy here at the Pole...my condolences for your loss.

I'm an admirer from afar having read about Dr. Taylor in 90 Degrees South by Dr. Paul Siple. Howard used to play tug of war with Bravo, Jack Tuck's dog at the South Pole. I'm a distant cousin of Jack's. Blessings to your family!

Ginger and I were very sorry to hear of Howard's passing. Enjoyed knowing and being treated by him at the South Pole. Our visit with Howard and yourself, June, several years ago was a highlight to us. May Howard rest in peace knowing he was respected by many.

I knew Howard for a short time, but long enough to realize that he was a very thoughtful and caring man. He may be gone, physically, but certainly will remain in our hearts.

As a brother-in-law of ours we have spent many wonderful hours with Howard. One memory is foremost in my mind--one that demonstrates the truly kind and gentle nature that was Howard. Upon arriving home in his car he was driving towards the barn in which he stored his car, when he noticed this very intricate and beautiful spider's web located at the entrance. He could not and would not disturb this beautiful creature and its work of art. His car was left out to the elements for many weeks! Even though it was time for him and better for him our hearts give us other messages. Howard will be greatly missed. God Bless! Love, Coleen and Doug.
