TERRY E. HILL Obituary
TERRY E. HILL - FAIRFAX - Terry E. Hill, 66, passed away at his home on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, surrounded by his family and closest friends, follow a year-long battle with cancer. He was born Terrill Earl Hill in Barton on March 30, 1946, the son of Earl and Lucille Hill. Terry was raised in Greensboro and spent his early years driving truck and working in the construction industry. He was blessed with an outstanding mechanical aptitude, and for years he owned and operated Hill Service Center in Milton. Terry also worked several years in the Boat and Snowmobile program with the Vermont Department of Public Safety. In the early 1990s, he formally founded Terry Hill Inc., which grew to be a nationally known and respected trucking and transportation company. He dedicated his life to making it a successful business. From its base at the Catamount Industrial Park in Milton, Terry Hill Inc. hauled Vermontbased freight to points throughout the United States and Canada, and from anywhere in the country back to Vermont. At the company's peak, he employed as many as 75 drivers and staff and owned and maintained a large fleet of tractor trailers and dump trucks. Terry Hill Inc. was the culmination of business success in Terry's life and he devoted countless hours in guiding it to a company to be proud of. Employees, associates and customers regarded him as a good friend, a true gentleman and a man of his word. He enjoyed the respect and friendship of his peers in the industry. In 2009, Terry finally sold the company and retired to Craftsbury. There he found the time to relax and develop a passion for snowmobiling. Terry and his brother, Lanny, traveled extensively and often throughout trails of the Northeast Kingdom. Terry cherished those times. When he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, he and Holly returned to Fairfax. Those who knew Terry well, will miss the kind and friendly gentleman devoted to his family and to his extended family and his former employees. His kindness and consideration can be measured by the countless acts of help and support he provided to everyone. He will be remembered as a compassionate and true friend, a tireless worker and an outstanding businessman. In his passing, Terry leaves his beloved wife, Holly (Chaffee) Hill, and their daughter, Marissa Menard, of Burlington; son, Terry Dean Hill of Morrisville, and his three children, Shawn, Brooke, and Stephaney; and daughter, Michele Adams and husband, Scott, and their children, Randi and Michael, of Hyde Park; stepchildren, Michelle Raponi and husband, David, of Hernando Beach, Fla., and Charles Menard of Roxbury; brother, Lanny and wife, Mary Jean, of East Hardwick; sister, Nancy Menard of Vergennes; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves old friend and former employee, Lane Marshall of Richmond; and longtime business associate, mentor and close personal friend, Ron Charlebois of South Burlington. Following Terry's wishes, there will be visiting hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at A.W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax Chapel. A funeral service will be held at the United Church of Fairfax on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m., with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating.
