SHIRLEY (SWENSON) MANCHESTER COLCHESTER - Shirley Jean Manchester, 77, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, April 19, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care of Burlington. The world is now missing a most beautiful lady. Shirley was born on Feb. 21, 1936, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Roland and Georgia (Othen) Swenson. After the death of her parents, she and her sister, Roberta, were raised by her maternal grandparents, George and Laura Othen. Shirley was educated in Willmar, Minn., and then attended the University of Vermont in Burlington. She worked as a periodontal assistant for Dr. William Lovett for 25 years. In 1951, in Topeka, Kan., Shirley met Richard Manchester, the love of her life. They were married at Forbes Air Force Base on June 28, 1952, and then moved to Richard's hometown of Burlington, where they raised five children. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Richard; their children and spouses, Gregory and Paula, Eric and Sue, Russell and Renee, and Krista and fiance, Michael; grandchildren, Seth, Zachary, and Rebecca, Lucas and Beth, Jed, Wendy and Jim, and Tasha, Louis, Priscilla, and Emery; step-grand- children, Shannon, Kim, and Mike; and greatgrandchildren, Shannon, Cole, Jamie, Holden, Evelyn, Ivy, Seamus, and Autumn. She is also survived by her dear sister, Roberta and husband, Owen; the Swenson family; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Roland and Georgia; her son, Forrest; her daughter-in-law, Deborah; two grandsons, Gregory Jr. and Steven; a brother, George; a sister, Virginia and husband, Dan; and a brother-in-law, Scott. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Fletcher Allen, Baird 3, for the special care they provided to Shirley. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 12 noon to 1 p.m., with services at 1 p.m. in the Elmwood- Meunier Funeral Chapel, 97 Elmwood Ave., Burlington. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Essex Center. Memorial contributions may be made to The Chittenden County Emergency Food Shelf, 228 North Winooski Ave., Burlington, VT 05401.
