Obituary Condolences

GERALD CHARLES BACHAND - HIGHGATE SPRINGS - Gerald Charles Bachand, age 70 years, died Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2013, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care facility with loving family at his side. Born in St. Albans on Oct. 12, 1942, he was the son of the late Harold and Florence (Guay) Bachand. He attended St. Albans schools, graduating in 1960 from Bellows Free Academy, and faithfully served his country in the Vermont Air National Guard from 1960 to 1965. On July 6, 1963, he was married to the former Virginia "Ginny" Bruyette, who survives him. For 40 years, Gerry had been associated with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals as both a pharmaceutical technician and consultant, traveling extensively. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He was also well known throughout the area as an accomplished organist playing at the Champlain Inn in St. Albans, Homestead Campground in Georgia, St. Albans Elks Lodge, as well as at many other functions. He was a longtime member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #1566 in St. Albans, and enjoyed ocean cruises and wintering in Apollo Beach, Fla. He was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In addition to his wife, Ginny, of 50 years; Gerry leaves three children, Scott Bachand and wife, Julie Goodrich, of St. Albans, Pamela B. Laskosky and husband, Chet, of Framingham, Mass., and Nicole Bachand of Essex; six grand- children, Marisa and Ben, Alex, Jacob and Hannah, and Liam; brothers and sisters, Ronald Bachand and wife, Renee, of St. Albans, Janet Chadwick and husband, Raymond, of Essex, David Bachand, Connie Mahaney and husband, Bob, and Christine Pignona, all of St. Albans; as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Emmanuel I. Ajanma will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
