DAVID A. LEBER - SOUTH BURLINGTON - David A. Leber, 86, of South Burlington, passed away after a short illness, on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Born in Chicago, Ill., on June 15, 1926, David was the son of Philip and Bella (Rightman) Leber. David and his family moved to Rockford, Ill., where he attended school. He graduated Officer Candidate School at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserves on June 5, 1946. In 1948, he graduated the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. On Jan. 15, 1950, he married Esther Zevin of Woodside, N.Y. David spent most of his working life in business in his hometown of Rockford, Ill., in the banking and insurance businesses. For several years, he owned and operated a hotel in Rockford. He moved to Burlington in 1998. David enjoyed playing bridge, reading history and following the progress of his beloved Chicago Cubs. David is survived by his children, Barbara Leber and husband, Ken Feld, of Montpelier, Michael Leber and wife, Miriam, of Ottawa, Canada, and Jonathan "Rick" Leber and wife, Heather, of Rockton, Ill.; grandchildren, Aviva, Benjamin, Shayna and Joshua Leber; great-grandson, Simon Nefsky; and half sister, Edith Ellenbogen of New York. He was predeceased by his wife, Esther; and half sister, Harriet Leber. A graveside service will be held at Ahavath Gerim Cemetery, 204 Patchen Road, South Burlington, on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.
