FRANCIS W. TRAYAH - MILTON - Francis W. Trayah, 81, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, July 6, 2013, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Francis W. Trayah was born on July 4, 1932, the son of William and Harriet (Allen) Trayah. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Henry Trayah, of Burlington, in 1984, and his wife, Beverly. He is survived by his wife, June (Ring) Trayah, whom he married on Jan. 5, 1956. Partnered in life, they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Francis and June had four sons, William, Randy, Ricky, and youngest son, Bradley, who passed away in 2008; and one daughter, Carla. Francis and June have three daughters-in-law, Thelma, Candy, and Sara; one son-in-law, Jesse; and grandson-in-law, Matt. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Nicole, Justin, Bobbie-Jo, Shane, Holly, Jessica, Shawn and Bailey; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Miles; and younger brother and wife, Raymond and Carol Weed of Essex Junction. Francis joined the United States Army in October 1947. Then SFC Francis W. Trayah, was a member of Co. E, 26th INF DIV, stationed in Germany, and served seven years on active duty during the Korean War. After leaving active service, he joined the Vermont Army National Guard. Francis went on to serve another 28 years. He served in the 1-86th Field Artillery "Chief of Smoke;" Co. D, 103rd AVN Mechanic; and, finally, with Co. C1-126th AVN, as a Supply Sgt. Francis worked full time for the Vermont Army National Guard in various positions including Materials Handler for the the USPFO-VT Warehouse and a Supply Technician. Francis retired honorably from both full time and part time service from the Vermont Army National Guard and considered the Guard his second family. He distinguished himself in numerous acts of selfless service to his unit and nation, retiring in 1992, after a total service of 36 years to his country, a true American hero. Some of SFC Francis Trayah's achievements are: awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and Army Service Ribbon. Francis was a lifetime member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Essex Junction, Post #6689. He loved family barbecues, and enjoyed time with friends, family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 20 Pine St., Burlington. Interment, with full military honors being accorded by the VT Army National Guard, will follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Plattsburgh Avenue, Burlington. Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Avenue, Burlington.
