BARBARA ATKINS ROUSSEAU - BROOKSVILLE, Fla./ NORTH HERO, Vt. - Barbara Atkins Rousseau, 87, died peacefully Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at her home in Florida. Barbara was born June 22, 1926, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Hermon R. and Anita Campbell Atkins. She attended school in North Hero, graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, and went on to study art and music while at Syracuse University. She married Frederick R. Rousseau, and together they were proprietors of Birdland Restaurant and Cabins in North Hero, until their retirement in Florida. Frederick passed away in 1992. She loved the Gulf beaches and traveling to the Mayan ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula. She is survived by her four children, Robert R. Rousseau of North Hero, Charles Dean Rousseau of South Hero, Bonnie Letourneau of Brooksville, Fla., and Peter F. Rousseau of North Hero; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Grand Isle Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.minorfh.com.
