THERESA ROCHETTE SMITH Obituary
THERESA ROCHETTE SMITH - ST. ALBANS - Theresa Rochette Smith, 77, of Venice, Fla., and St. Albans Bay, Vt., passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at the Vermont Respite House on Aug. 1, 2013, after a courageous, fouryear battle with ovarian cancer. Theresa was born in Winooski on Jan. 21, 1936, the daughter of Alice and Charles Rochette. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1954. She was bilingual and spoke both French and English throughout her life - to her children, and especially to her sisters and cousins in Canada. She was a lifelong learner and studied and accomplished many things including computers, knitting, and various arts and crafts. She set an example for her family on how to have fun and found much enjoyment from golf, bowling, playing cards, Mah-Jong, and singing songs with any and all members of her family. On Oct. 4, 1958, Theresa married John at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Theresa taught religion classes at Holy Family Church in Essex Junction, was a member of St. Lawrence Church in Essex Junction, Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Venice, Fla., and Holy Angels Church in St. Albans. Theresa has enjoyed and organized many golf leagues and outings, was extremely active and supportive of her family, and many Right to Life events and causes. Theresa worked with New England Telephone, and retired from Verizon New England, Inc. after 25 years. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; three children, Brian and Melody of Rockville, Md., Brenda and Eric of Waterbury Center, and Brad and Lauri of Manahawkin, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Joseph, Ashley, Amanda, Christopher, BJ, Christy, and Dominic; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jake, Sophia, James, and Travis; one brother, Paul; four sisters, Carmen, Yvette, Anita, and Dina; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her brother, Arsene; and nephew, Jimmy. Please keep Theresa and her family in your prayers; she would like that. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Angels Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013. Visiting hours will be at Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013. Interment will be in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at the following websites: www.bradyandlevesque.com, or www.caringbridge.org/visit/theresasmith. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family is requesting donations to Vermont Respite House or to the Caring Bridge Organization.
