NANCY GILLETT Obituary

NANCY A. GILLETT ESSEX JUNCTION - Nancy A. Gillett passed away on May 27, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care after a five year struggle with breast cancer. She stayed positive and strong throughout, while fighting the disease with everything she had. Nancy was born on May 3, 1947, in the Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester to Vida (Lynde) Shattuck and Edmund Shattuck. She lived most of her life in Essex Junction. Nancy was employed by Fletcher Allen Health Care as a Practice Support Specialist at the Orthopedics Specialty Center on Tilley Drive in South Burlington. She loved her work and her co-workers. If there is one word that sums up Nancy, that word is amazing. All her doctors, nurses, and coworkers used that word time and again to describe Nancy's will and determination to fight her illness. Nancy is survived by her husband of over 37 years, Charles Gillett; her daughter, Bobbi Jo Bergeron and companion, David Giroux; her son, John Bergeron; her mother, Vida Eno; and sisters, Jane Thayer and husband, Maurice, Bonnie Keith and husband, Walter, and Cheryl Kovac. Nancy is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Chandra, Cheri, Brigit, Nichole, Sydney, and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Tucker and Jordan. Nancy was predeceased by her father, Edmund Shattuck; and her much loved step-father, Gerald Eno. Nancy loved her family unconditionally. A memorial service for Nancy will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 10 a.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church located at 130 Maple St., Essex Junction. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of her family. Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction, in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Fletcher Allen Breast Care Center. Nancy's family would like to thank Dr. Marie Wood, Penny Gibson, and the entire Oncology team for all their efforts on Nancy's behalf.

I met Nancy at the NCFCU many years ago, and we met up again at FAHC when she was being treated, along with my Mom. Her determination during her long fight showed her inner strength, and will to live. We saw her from a distance in April....but didn't get to talk to her. We are so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. She was one in a million!!!!!

I worked with Nancy at OSC for about 6 or 7 years, both at the Spine Center and at OSC when we moved there. She was such a strong person going through her illness and fought to the bitter end with dignity. I enjoyed our talks and how she always made me laugh. She will be missed and I extend my deepest sympathy to her family.
