Colin CAMPBELL Obituary

CAMPBELL, Colin Kenneth Kidson, BSc. (Hon.), LLB (Hon.) On April 28th, 2015, we all lost an amazing and wonderful human being, husband, father, friend, grandfather and gentleman. It was a passing far too early for such a kind and generously devoted family man, with great character and sense of humour. Colin bore his illness with tremendous courage, bravery, strength of mind and a positive outlook. Colin was born in Vancouver, at St. Paul's Hospital, on June 17th, 1945, a true B.C. native. His first four years were spent in Vancouver and West Vancouver, then moving to Edmonton with his family, when his father Kenneth (T.K.) Campbell was transferred by Mr. W. C. Woodward to take over the management of Woodwards in Alberta. Colin is survived by his loving family; wife, Sue; daughter, Paula, her mate Christopher Wong; son, Sean, his mate Marian Marrache; granddaughter, Makena; his aunt, Barbara Clarke; cousin, Bev Haselman and family; cousin, Tony Butler and family. Colin was predeceased by his father Kenneth (T.K.), brother Kevan and mother Pauline. His passion and curiosity for life was evident from a young age and continued throughout his life. His mind was always in high gear. Colin attended Elementary, Junior High and Senior Schools in Edmonton. During the summers of his late teens and early twenties, Colin worked for CFRN Radio and TV, reporting news, doing his own script work, editing and all matters required of him. He attended University of Alberta, graduating with an Honours Science degree in Physics. Upon graduating, he worked for Imperial Oil as a geophysicist. He enjoyed his tenure there and met many wonderful people. Colin then embarked on another pursuit - law, attending University of Alberta and graduating from the Faculty of Law with Honours. Having shoveled the last shovel of snow in March of 1972, he decided to move back to his native land of British Columbia and, with family in tow, settled in West Vancouver. He articled with Boughton and Company and, in 1974, began practicing law in Burnaby until his semi-retirement in late 2012. His love and wonderment of science was matched by his love of sports (he was an accomplished sprinter and Provincial Junior Badminton Champion and Junior Golfer at Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton), music from jazz, classical, rock and roll to opera, cooking, painting, art, photography, golf, flying in the newest aircraft when travelling and movies. He did a wonderful impersonation of Rodney Dangerfield and all the characters in My Cousin Vinny. He spent many wonderful hours flying his Flight Simulator into airports all over the world and was always exhilarated by the thrill of flying the various planes. He opened doors for others, figuratively and literally, always expanding his horizons and of those around him. Colin was a member of Capilano Golf and Country Club, which he truly considered a privilege. He cherished the friendships made through golf and business and always felt so enriched by their presence. He looked forward to his weekday and his weekend golf games and, more importantly, to those he played with, always coming home with wonderful tales of what he had learned from them all and being so grateful for knowing them. Colin loved all creatures great and small. His eye would catch the most beautiful aspects of nature and life and the camera lens became an extension of his sight, capturing the most remarkable aspects of them both. His images are truly magnificent. He loved "his" hummingbirds that were ever present year round and constantly being nurtured by Colin's special homemade nectar for them. They will miss him! It is said that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Their delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation. This epitomizes Colin and his philosophy on life. He encouraged us to think big and visualize positive outcomes. His love for his family knew no bounds. He was our protector, husband, father, friend, and advisor. He treasured and cherished his daughter Paula and son, Sean and was so proud of their accomplishments. His flame may be dimmed, but not extinguished. He will be "Forever Young." Col., Dad, you are a true Renaissance Man! We love, cherish, treasure and honour you. The void is vast as are the wonderful memories. Thank you for your love, Aloha nui loa The family extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the large healing circle of health care professionals and friends for the care, love, compassion, encouragement and support you so freely gave to Colin and to us, the family. For all the lovely phone calls, e-mails and beautiful cards, thank you, all are appreciated beyond measure. A Celebration of Life for Colin will be held May 30th, 2015 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Capilano Golf and Country Club, 420 Southborough Drive, West Vancouver. Please note that the dress code at Capilano does not allow any form of jeans/denim or flip flops. Cell phones/electronic devices are also not permitted.
