Russell F. Wellner, Sr., 96, of Butler died peacefully Thursday evening at his home where he had lived for 63 years. He was surrounded by his family.
Born Dec. 23, 1916, in Butler, he was a son of the late Albert and Helen (Eichenlaub) Wellner.
He was a 1937 graduate of Butler High School and Butler Business College and had attended Penn State University. Russell had worked for Keystone Pipe and Supply, which became Marmon Keystone, in Butler for more than 35 years, until his retirement.
He was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the Roman Catholic Men's Club and the Century Club Dance Group. He enjoyed golfing and was an expert fly fisherman, a big band music lover and an avid reader.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are his wife, Madalyne L. (Bauldoff) Wellner, who he married Sept. 4, 1946; three sons, Russell F. (Kathy) Wellner Jr. of Saxonburg, John P. (Jennifer) Wellner of Lancaster, Ohio, and Christopher M. (Deborah) Wellner of Meridian; three daughters, Paula (Dr. Edward) Lampton of Hagerstown, Md., Cynthia (Anthony) McNichols of Annapolis, Md., and Kathleen (Robert) Williamson of Butler; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
WELLNER - Funeral services for Russell F. Wellner Sr., who died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, will be at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, at 4 p.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
In addition, his family is planning a celebration of Russell's life which will take place this summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.

Russ was a great neighbor and raised a great family.Many memories of him and his family on Spruce St.Just keep in mind he is at the destination we are still on the journey.

I send my prayers and loving memories of Uncle Russ. Peace and blessings to his family and all who were fortunate to know him. Going fishing with my Dad and Uncle Russ was one of the high points in my life.
