A. Paul Baroutsis, 77, of Slippery Rock Township passed away at the Grove City Medical Center on Friday following an extended illness.
He was born in Bellefonte on May 12, 1937, to Polydoros Baroutsis and Antigoni Panagiotopoulis Baroutsis.
He married Jeannie Ham on June 12, 1971.
He graduated from State College High School in 1955. He later received his bachelor's degree and master's degree in mathematics from Penn State University
. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University
in economics in 1972.
Paul retired from Slippery Rock University where he was an economics professor from 1972 to 1999.
He was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church. His hobbies/interests included woodworking, photography, working with youth soccer when his two youngest daughters were playing and never meeting a stranger.
Before teaching at SRU, he worked for Kresge's in the management program and as an assistant professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In 1961 he served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie, of Slippery Rock; four daughters, Shauna and her husband, Dan Archer, of West Jordon, Utah, Lynnette and her husband, Larry Slovensky, of Atlanta, Ga., Karena and her husband, Greg McCandless, of Burton, Ohio, and Tanya and her husband, Jermain Artis, of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Irene Highland of Grove City and Doukeni Vassil of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
BAROUTSIS - The family of A. Paul Baroutsis, who died Friday, May 16, 2014, will observe a Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Baroutsis' residence.
Arrangements are handled by the Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.
Memorial contributions may be given to further the cause of Alzheimer's Research.
