Alexander W. 'Alex' Lukes
Alexander W. "Alex" Lukes, 85, of Zelienople went home to be with the Lord Monday morning at Passavant Retirement Center, Zelienople.
Born in Zelienople, Sept. 17, 1927, he was the son of Steven and Mary Peksza Lukes.
He was a member of Zelienople-Harmony United Methodist Church.
He had worked as a welder for Halstead for 20 years. After it closed, he went to work for Billco and retired after 20 years. He also worked for seven years for Exxon.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as 3rd class.
He was a member of the Siebenburger Club, he enjoyed going to Erie and traveling and he loved horseshoe pitching.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce "Cookie" Kline Lukes, who he married Aug. 11, 1951; two daughters, Mary Alyce (David) Gaibis of New Castle and Vicki (Dennis) Hussar of Zelienople; one son, Elek C. (Annette) Lukes of Uniontown, Ohio; one sister, Helen Dehass of Zelienople; six grandchildren, Jayson Bankert, Alexa Lenhart, Matthew Palerino, Margaret Palerino, Meesha Lukes and Myla Lukes; and three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryson and Madeline.
LUKES - Friends and relatives of Alexander W. Lukes, who died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 114 W. Spring St., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harmony-Zellenople United Methodist Church, Zelienople.
