Constance Annable Hartung
Constance Annable Hartung, 94, of Orchard Manor, Grove City, formerly of Harrisville and Slippery Rock, passed away at Orchard Manor on Saturday.
She was born Oct. 27, 1918, to Donald Carr Annable and Katherine Chisholm Annable.
She married George E. Hartung on April 7, 1968, and he passed away Feb. 17, 1986.
Her family moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1928. She was a secretary working for the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Hartung lived and worked there until 1946 when she accepted a position at the U.S. Naval Training Station in Great Lakes, Ill. In 1949, she transferred to Guam and worked at various Naval installations for the next 28 years, retiring in 1977.
She and her husband then moved to Harrisville. In 1989, she moved to Slippery Rock. She traveled extensively in the Far East and, after retirement, in Europe.
Mrs. Hartung was a member of the Embroiders Guild of America, Youngstown Chapter, and enjoyed counted thread, needlepoint and quilting. She was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Harrisville and frequently quilted at the Harrisville United Methodist. She was an avid reader.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, their children; and a special friend, Brenda Ward and her husband, Richard, of Harrisville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Priscilla A. Wulf and Patricia C. Annable; and two brothers, Charles H. and Donald C. Annable.
HARTUNG - Constance Annable Hartung, 94, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012. A Mass of Christian burial will be at the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Forestville, at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Father Kevin Poecking, pastor of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, presiding.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Harrisville.
