Donald L. Bailey, 76, of Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo, formerly of West Freedom in Clarion County, died at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday at Clarion Hospital after a long illness.
Born June 17, 1928, in St. Benedict, Cambria County, he was the son of Sylvan and Gertrude Frampton Bailey.
He served in the Army from Sept. 5, 1950, to June 21, 1952, with the 112th Infantry Regiment of the famed 28th Division. He received the German Occupation Medal and was discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Bailey had worked at C&K Coal Co. for years and later was employed by the Senior Citizen Center in Rimersburg.
He was a member of the West Freedom United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 36 of Jersey Shore, Lycoming County.
Surviving are two sons, George Brenton Bailey of Atlanta, Ga., and Joseph Bradley Bailey of Jersey Shore; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
His wife, Mabel Clawson Bailey, whom he married Oct. 25, 1952, died Nov. 19, 1999. A sister and a brother also preceded him in death.
BAILEY - Friends of Donald L. Bailey, who died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at West Freedom Cemetery.
After the funeral service, local VFW and American Legion posts will conduct a veteran's service at the funeral home.
