Elva Leitem
Elva Leitem, 82, of North Oakland, Chicora, passed away peacefully on Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, after an extended illness.
Elva was born on Feb. 27, 1930, to Charles Slater and Mary Neff Slater, and was raised in Oakland Township. She attended the Little Weaver one-room school house in Oakland Township.
On June 30, 1949, she married Carl A. Leitem Jr., who died Dec. 5, 1998.
She was happily married for 49 years to Carl Leitem and together they raised their 11 children, Tom Leitem, Dan Leitem, Brenda Neigh, Mark Leitem, Mary Leitem, Pam Smith, Susie Strobel, Glenn Leitem, Roy Leitem, Cara Henry and Julie Ryan. She was the grandmother of 23 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren.
Elva was preceded in death by her husband Carl Leitem; daughter, Mary Leitem; brothers, Raymond, Albert and Harry Slater; and sister, Rose Patton.
After her children were raised, she was employed at Sunnyview Nursing Home and the Butler YWCA.
Elva was an active member of the Faith Fellowship Alliance Church and a follower of Jesus Christ. She loved going to services on Sundays, Sunday school, prayer meetings, Bible studies and fellowship times.
She also enjoyed taking long walks, growing flowers, going to yard sales, bowling, painting, sitting in her yard and family get-togethers. Elva also loved to share her faith in Jesus Christ with people wherever she went.
Elva was dearly loved by her family and members of the church.
LEITEM - Visitation for Elva Leitem, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faith Way, Butler.
The memorial service will be in the sanctuary at noon and officiated by Senior Pastor Richard Jenks.
Following the service, there will be a luncheon in the fellowship hall.
Elva will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Carl, in Saint Joseph Cemetery, North Oakland, Chicora.
