Francis M. Nowicki
Francis M. Nowicki, 89, of Butler died Tuesday at his home.
He was born in Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, and was the son of Anthony and Verna Nowicki.
During World War II
, he served in the U.S. Navy
from August of 1941 until September of 1946.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he retired after 25 years as an elementary principal for the Butler School District. He served as principal at Center Avenue, McQuistion, Emily Brittain and Northwest schools. Prior to becoming a principal, he had taught in the Highland Schools, Allegheny County, and at the Van Dyke Schools in Detroit, Mich.
He was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian, and a life member of the Pennsylvania Teachers Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars
and the American Legion.
His wife, Bernice (Golier) Nowicki, who he married Jan. 31, 1948, died Feb. 12, 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Mark) Konezny of Rochester, N.Y., and Lynn (David) McKinnis of Butler; two sons, Michael (Linda) Nowicki of Welling, Okla., and David (Sharon) Nowicki of Tahlequah, Okla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Florence) Nowicki of Natrona Heights.
NOWICKI - There will be no visitation for Francis M. Nowicki, who died Tuesday, May 14, 2013. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian. The Rev. James Murphy, pastor, will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
