Gilbert Edward Hoover, 81, of Claytonia passed away at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at his home following an extended illness.
Gilbert was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Claytonia, the son of the late Albert S. Hoover and the late Catherine E. Hilliard Hoover.
He was a member of the Claytonia Church of the Nazarene. Gilbert was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union 2274 for more than 35 years. He also was a member of the Mercer Moose.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Donna Grossman Hoover, who he married May 12, 1951; one daughter, Tracey (Ron) Donaldson of Slippery Rock; two sons, Gilbert (Nancy) Hoover Jr., of Valencia and Timothy (Julie) Hoover of Mercer; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Gilbert also is survived by one sister, Bonnie Hoover of Texas; five brothers, Martin (Ella) Hoover of Harrisville, John (Martina)Hoover of Portersville, Walter (Jean) Hoover of Unionville, Thomas (Mary Lou) Hoover of Slippery Rock and Ray Hoover of Portersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Littie Berry, Clara Meals, Faye Tackett and Alma McCall, and three brothers, Arthur Hoover, Ernest Hoover and Albert "Buss" Hoover.
HOOVER - Friends of Gilbert Edward Hoover of Claytonia, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, will be received at the Claytonia Church of the Nazarene, Halston Road, West Sunbury, from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Britton, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Claytonia Church of the Nazarene.
