Guy G. Heilman
Guy G. Heilman, 93, of Sacramento, Calif., passed away Monday from complications from a fall.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1919, in East Brady to Gertrude and Charlie Heilman.
He decided to follow in his father's footsteps and be a funeral director
. His apprenticeship was interrupted by World War II
, and he served for almost five years in the U.S. Air Force
as a navigator completing 35 missions over Europe, two of which were on D-Day.
He married Ardys Sibole, a Sacramento, Calif., native, who he met while stationed at Mather Field.
He joined the firm of Harry A. Nauman and Son in 1947.
Guy was very involved in the Sacramento community. He joined the 20-30 Club, was president of Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1949, was selected by the Jaycees as Outstanding Man of the Year, became president of the Easter Seal Society and served three years on the State Society Board. He was active in the American Cancer Society as campaign chairman in 1961-62, and president in 1965. After 20 years, he received an honorary lifetime membership and joined on a national level.
He joined the Masonic Fraternity in 1941, the Washington Lodge, the Shrine and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He served as master of the Rose Croix and was awarded the honorary 33rd degree.
He joined the First United Methodist Church in 1947, and was active in many capacities. He served as personnel commissioner for the County Board of Education from 1972 to 1981. He served on the governor's committee for New State Planning. He was a board member of Methodist Hospital for nine years.
With several funeral directors, he purchased Camellia Memorial Lawn, and was the founding president.
Guy retired from Harry A. Nauman and Son in 2003, after 56 years of service. He was president and part owner when the company was sold and stayed on for an additional 14 years as a consultant.
A member of the Point West Rotary Club
since 1987, he was their song leader.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Heilman-Cozzalio and her husband, Victor Cozzalio of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Pauline Heilman of East Brady; niece, Charyl Barnhart (Howard) of Butler, and their sons, Todd and Jason.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; sister, Lilian; and beloved wife, Ardys.
HEILMAN - Services for Guy G. Heilman, who passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, will be at the First United Methodist Church, Sacramento, Calif., at 1 p.m. Monday.
