Harold Altmire Obituary

Harold D. Altmire
Harold D. Altmire, 84, of Boyers, passed away late Wednesday afternoon at Butler Memorial Hospital following an illness.
Born in Venango Township, Butler County on July 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Theodore and Julia Kelly Altmire.
Following graduation from high school, he began a career with Armco Steel at Butler, that lasted nearly 41 years, retiring in 1979. His last position was a craneman for the company.
Harold served in World War II with the U.S. Army from October 1943 to March 1946. Honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters of Operation Ribbons.
He was a member and elder of East Unity United Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the Class IV Sunday school class. He also was a longtime member of the church cemetery board of directors.
Surviving are his wife, Alice J. Sloan Altmire, whom he married April 12, 1946, and they had just celebrated 64 years of marriage. He is survived by a daughter, Martha J. Altmire of Boyers; and a son, H. David and wife, Carol, Altmire Jr. of Butler; a sister, Julia (Floyd) Sutton of Karns City; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Margaret Dittman, Alice Meals, Violet Wiles, Josephine DeLong and Alberta Bridge; and five brothers: Theodore, Frank, John Sr., Lawrence and Clarence Altmire.
ALTMIRE - Private visitation and funeral services were held Friday for Harold D. Altmire, who died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Eau Claire. Burial was made in East Unity Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to East Unity Cemetery Assn., c/o Kim Butler, Indian Rocks Road, Emlenton, Pa. 16373.
