LeVerne Arnold Shelstad, 89, of Evans City passed away early Friday morning in the VNA Inpatient Hospice of Butler.
The son of the late Oscar and Josephine Hammer Shelstad, he was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Madison, Minn.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Prospect.
Mr. Shelstad was retired from Turner Construction, where he had worked for 20 years. He previously worked 16 years with Dravo Construction.
LeVerne was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, having served from 1943-1947 in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, VFW of Uniontown Post 47 and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Siedschlag Shelstad, who he married Dec. 19, 1945; his children, Diane Marie (Rob Gully) Shelstad of Clarksville, Ruth (Mark) Kostrab of Perry, Ohio, LeVerne Shelstad of Evans City, Scott Shelstad of Mentor, Ohio, and Oscar (Edna) Shelstad of Butler; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, one son, one granddaughter, one brother and one sister.
SHELSTAD - Visitation for LeVerne Arnold Shelstad, who died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect.
The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, at the corner of Perry and Church streets in Prospect, with the Rev. Gary Brown, his church pastor, officiating.
Interment with military honors will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Prospect.
