Odbert Raymond "Peck" Mick

Odbert Raymond "Peck" Mick, 91, of Jackson Mill, W.Va., formerly of Portersville, passed away on Wednesday surrounded by his loving family and in the comfort of his daughter's home in Connoquenessing Township.
Born Jan. 23, 1922, in Indian Fork, W.Va., he was the son of the late Guy and Vivian (Moore) Mick.
In his youth, Peck enjoyed sports and played both baseball and football, which later translated into his love for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He was a devoted member of the Blackburn United Methodist Church in Glenville, W.Va., for many years where he held a position as superintendent of Sunday schools and taught adult Sunday school. An avid outdoorsman, Peck had a love for nature and enjoyed hunting and gardening.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served for three years during World War II in the Pacific theater.
Peck was known to be a jack-of-all-trades. In his early years, he was a volunteer firefighter in Portersville.
He worked as a farmer for much of his life. He worked on the pipeline, cut timber at a saw mill, and worked on connecting Route 19 from Pennsylvania to Weston, W.Va. Additionally, he worked for 28 years as a fork lift operator for Lava Crucible in Zelienople.
Above all, Peck was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and even great-great-grandfather who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his five children, Carl Mick and his wife, Sandy, of Buckhannon, W.Va., Twila Simko of Baden, Mary Anne Kristophel and her husband, Dan, of Connoquenessing Township, Joyce Bagnall and her companion, William, of Portersville and Peggy Swatsworth of Portersville; one sister, Lorna Wine of Indian Fork, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, Annette, Shiela, Leah, Rebecca, Carl Jr. (Duke), Jason, Tyler, Jimmy, Shanna, Chad and David; 12 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Josie, Kayelyn, Ashley, Stephanie, Jake, Joe, Travis, Kristin, Wyatt, Ethan, and Jessica; and three great-great-grandchildren, Renee, Giovanni and Arianna.
In addition to his parents, Peck was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Wanda L. (Marks) Mick, who passed away Dec. 3, 2007; one brother, Grant Mick; an infant brother, Howard Mick; and one granddaughter, Jessica Kristophel.
MICK - The family of Odbert Raymond "Peck" Mick, who died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, will welcome friends from noon until the time of a funeral ceremony with military honors at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ellyson Mortuary, 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, W.Va., with the Rev. Bob Pascoe officiating.
He will be laid to rest at the Blackburn Cemetery, Blackburn, W.Va.
Initial arrangements were entrusted to the Boylan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.
