Stephen A. 'Sparky' Clouse
Stephen A. "Sparky" Clouse, 90, of North Oakland, Chicora, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday in Butler Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Born at his home in Oakland Township, Jan. 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Vincent F. and Philomena Waltman Clouse.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, Chicora.
He attended grades one to eight in the Weaver One-Room School in North Oakland. The school still is on his property in North Oakland.
A veteran of World War II, Stephen served our country in the U.S. Army with Company B 93rd Medical Battalion Gas Treatment. He served our country from Nov. 27, 1942, to Nov. 27, 1945, achieving the rank of private first class. He served in Northern France, Rhinehold, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Four Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
His beautiful bride of 64 years, Wilhelmina Anne Bracken, whom he married May 18, 1948, at Saint Joseph Church in North Oakland, preceded him in death on April 18, 2012.
He was a farmer all of his life, and he also worked for the Fritz Moon Pipe and Tube Co. in East Butler until the plant closed. Then he worked for Pullman Standard in Butler, until the plant closed in 1979.
Stephen enjoyed hunting, going on road trips, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, and baseball, but most of all he enjoyed his beloved farm.
Surviving are his daughters, Margaret and Paul Salyers of Chicora, Amy and John MacDonald of Nassau, N.Y., and Emily Konar and her fiancé, Jason Malis, of Chicora; son, Gerard Clouse of Chicora; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his son-in-law, Paul Heller Sr. of Chicora; his brother, John and Eleanor Clouse of Butler; sisters, Helen Bruner of Butler and Marie and Louis Bauldoff of Fenelton; sister-in-law, Dorothy Clouse of Chicora; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhondae Heller; sons, Kenneth Clouse and Daniel Clouse; great-grandson, Dalton Heller; his sister and her husband, Margaret and Bill Young; brothers, Albert F. "Jake" and Helen Clouse and Arthur "Bill" Clouse; and brother-in-law, Fred Bruner.
CLOUSE - Friends of Stephen A. "Sparky" Clouse, who died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.
A celebration of life will be held with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, Chicora, at 11 a.m. Friday and celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Pudichery, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Oakland, where full military honors will be provided by members of the Chicora VFW, the Chicora American Legion, the Bradys Bend American Legion and the 99th Regional Readiness Command of Pittsburgh.
