Victor H. Jones
Victor H. Jones, 88, of Greenville, Pa., passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the White Cliff Nursing Home in Hempfield Township.
Mr. Jones was born on Sept. 17, 1924, in Butler to Ralph and Mary Jones.
He was employed for 26 years at the Progress Printing Co. on Clinton Street in Greenville. First working for his father-in-law, A.L. Johnson, he bought the business in 1967 with his partner, Bill Carley, and operated it until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville, and had been active as trustee, elder and usher.
He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, serving in the U.S. Army
during World War II
from 1943 to 1945.
Vic was involved in many community service activities. He was a scout master for Boy Scout Troop 72, operating from the Salvation Army, Greenville. He was a director of the former Greenville Recreation Center. He was a director of the former Greenville ice skating rink. He was an organizer of church league softball in Greenville, managing and playing for the Hillside United Presbyterian Church. After his playing days were over, he became an American Softball Association umpire and spent many years officiating with his good friend, Stan Adams.
His wife, the former Ruth Ann Johnson, who he married Aug. 21, 1954, survives at home.
He also leaves two sons, Gary Jones and his wife, Tina, of Greenville, and Vic Jones and his wife, Shannon, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Paula Monteleone and her husband, Dominick, of Butler and Vickie McConnell and her husband, Richard, of Butler; six grandchildren, Kyle Jones and his wife, Kelly, of Raleigh N.C., Lindsay Jones of Charlotte, N.C., Kendra Graham and her husband, Damon, of Butler, Erin Brown of Brookville, Dan McConnell and his wife, Misty, of Butler and Eric Geibel of Butler; two step-grandchildren, Kayla Fletcher and Austin Fletcher, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Becky Branch-Travathan, pastor of Hillside Presbyterian Church, officiating. Greenville VFW
Post 3374 will render military honors at the conclusion of the service.
