William James "Jim" Bailey, 85, of Dutch Hill, Parker, entered eternal rest with Jesus Christ early Thursday morning surrounded by his loving family.
His death follows his wife, Arlene, who passed 10 days ago.
Born in Bradys Bend, April 30, 1925, he was the son of the late William Grant and Garnet Hay Bailey.
He married L. Arlene Bailey on Dec. 21, 1947, and she passed away Jan. 23, 2011.
Jim was a graduate of the former Rimersburg High School, and he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Clarion State Teachers College, now Clarion University.
He began an elementary teaching career in 1951 in a two-room school house in Dutch Hill and continued teaching with the same district, now the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District of Foxburg, until his retirement in 1987.
Jim was extremely proud to have served his country in World War II with the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged with the rank of electrician's mate 2nd class on Dec. 13, 1945. Because of his military service, Jim truly became an historian of both World War II and the Navy.
He was long affiliated with the Church of God, first at the former Dutch Hill church and later with the unified Parker Hill Church of God at West Freedom. He was a member of the Saturday Morning Men's Breakfast Prayer group at the church as well as the Wednesday Morning Men's Prayer Breakfast at the Plaza near Emlenton.
Jim, Arlene and their five children maintained the farm in Perry Township, Clarion County, where all lived for many decades.
He was a member of the American Legion in Rimersburg, the NRA and various golf groups in the area. He was well known for his interest in hunting and fishing.
Surviving are one daughter and her husband, Pam and Bill LeVier of Shelocta; four sons and their wives, William J. (Debbie) of Anderson, Ind., John (Melinda) of Tionesta, Clint (Darlene) of Rimersburg and Stan (Brenda) of Dutch Hill, Parker; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; two brothers and their wives, the Rev. David (Marian) of Perryville and the Rev. Mike (Ann) of Marienville.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Arlene, two siblings, Ellen Snyder and Clarence Bailey, preceded him in death.
BAILEY - Friends of William James "Jim" Bailey, who died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Buzard Funeral Home in Parker. Additional viewing will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Park Hill Church of God, Lime Plant Road, West Freedom, where the funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Church of God staff officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dutch Hill.
Military honors conducted by the American Legion of Rimersburg and Parker and the VFW of Parker will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday preceding the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Missionary Society International, c/o Park Hill Church of God, Parker, PA 16049.
