Aleene Rankin
Aleene Rankin, 81, of Haysville Road, Karns City, Fairview Township, passed away Monday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice following a brief illness.
Born on June 13, 1931, in Fairview Township, she was the daughter of Clyde L. and Leoda Shawl Miller.
Aleene was married in Fairview by the Rev. Bash on July 27, 1951, to Clyde "Sparky" Rankin. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2012.
Mrs. Rankin was a member of the Fairview United Presbyterian Church, and had been a member of the Women's Tri-County Wednesday Bowling League and the Petrolia VFD Ladies Auxiliary.
Aleene was a homemaker and was an excellent cookie baker. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and the company of her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are two children, Gary Rankin and his wife, Tracy, of Karns City and Pam Smith and her husband, Mike, of Chicora; five grandchildren, Jason Rankin and his wife, Sarah, of Karns City, Kylee Rankin of Karns City and her fiancé, Justin Smith, of Petrolia, Jeremy Smith and his wife, Deana, of Carmichaels, Joshua Smith and his wife, Nikki, of Chicora, and Jessica Dietrich and her husband, Tim, of Lyndora; two great-granddaughters, Ava and Sophia Smith of Carmichaels and one great-grandson, Caden Dietrich of Lyndora; three step-great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Mason and Kyle Nolan of Chicora; her twin sister, Arleene Burrows and her husband, Shirl Felix, of Parker; a sister, Glenda Sweeney of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Barb Miller of Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Aleene was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Miller and two sisters, Jean Gifford and Betty Bryan.
RANKIN - Friends of Aleene Rankin, who passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the funeral home with the Rev. Denny Barger, a long-time family friend and pastor at the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton, officiating. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
