Allen R. 'Randy' Smith
Allen R. "Randy" Smith, 68, of Butler passed away Tuesday in Chautauqua County, N.Y.
He was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Butler to the late Floyd J. Smith and Norabel Leech Smith.
Randy was a member of the Christ Outreach Church in Butler. He was a 1962 graduate of Butler High School and was a 1966 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, receiving a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.
He served his country as 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a mechanized infantry platoon leader in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with V Device for valor.
He was an industrial engineer at Armco/AK Steel for 37 years, retiring in 2003. Randy was an active member of the East Butler Baseball Association and Junior Achievement. He was an avid archery hunter.
Randy is survived by his wife, Devonna "Bonnie" Mackey Smith; two sons, Timothy Allen Smith and his wife, Michele, of Henderson, Nev., and Dean Randal Smith of Henderson, Nev.; one daughter, Amanda C. Sekel and her husband, Peter, of Verona, Pa.; three grandchildren, Peter Allen Sekel, Wayne Randal Smith and Roxann Elizabeth Smith; two brothers, F. James "Jim" Smith and his wife, Toni, of Norwich, Ohio, and Jeffrey P. Smith and his wife, Beth, of Fenelton; one sister, Lynn Ann Hageter and her husband, Robert of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister.
SMITH - Friends of Allen R. "Randy" Smith, who passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Christ Outreach Church, 120 Walker Ave., Butler, with Pastor Gary Koontz of Christ Outreach Church officiating. Burial will be at North Side Cemetery with full military honors.
