Alyce 'Sis' Habecker
Alyce O. "Sis" Habecker, 71, of Cabot, formerly of the Emlenton area, died late Tuesday afternoon at Butler Memorial Hospital after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Born on the Ed Hoffman farm near Clintonville, May 28, 1935, she was the daughter of William H. "Dick" and Austa C. McElhaney Hoffman.
She was a Protestant and had attended the Rockland School in Venango County.
Mrs. Habecker had been employed by United Nuclear Homestead Partners in Milan, N.M., and later worked for and retired from the Navy in Orlando, Fla.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, quilting, traveling, playing cards, casino gambling and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are her husband, LaVerne William "Bill" Habecker, whom she married Sept. 29, 1985, in Ocoee, Fla.; a daughter, Sharon I. Niedermeyer of Woodruff, S.C.; two sons, Melvin C. Truby Jr. of Elkhart, Ind., and James H. Truby of Cabot; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Lani, Curtis, Cliff and Vickie Habecker, all out of state; and several step-grandchildren.
She also is survived by two brothers, Merle N. "Newt" Hoffman of Barkeyville and William H. "Bus" Hoffman of Parker; a number of nieces and nephews, and her parents-in-law.
A brother preceded her in death.
HABECKER - Friends of Alyce O. "Sis" Habecker, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Main Street/Route 38, Eau Claire. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riddle Cemetery, near Clintonville.
