Dr. David Auxter, 91, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away Tuesday in King George, Va.
Born July 26, 1927, in Ann Arbor, Mich., he was the son of Earl and Naomi Auxter.
Dave's first job was coaching football at Brewer High School in Maine. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Springfield College in Massachusetts, where he also coached football.
Dave received his doctorate of education from Boston University and spent most of his career teaching Adapted Physical Education at Slippery Rock University.
He spent his retirement in Washington, D.C., continuing his lifelong work as an advocate for people with disabilities. He was also a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include his six children, Mark Auxter of Philadelphia, Anne Kamerer of Butler, Matt Auxter of Slippery Rock, Lynne Cunningham of Virginia, Sue Parham of Maryland and Jayne Robinson of Maryland; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy.
Services for Dr. David Auxter, who died Sept. 4, 2018, will be private.
