Gene G. Zarnick II
Gene G. Zarnick II, 61, of Erie passed away Tuesday due to complications after heart surgery at Saint Vincent Health Systems.
He was born in Butler on Oct. 18, 1951, and was a son of Gene G. Zarnick I of Butler and the late Helen (Hrip) Zarnick. He was preceded in death by his mother, who passed away March 4, 2011.
Gene received his master's degree in library science from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as the director of the library at SCI Albion until his retirement in 2012.
He was a former member of the Erie Philharmonic Choir. Gene was a member of the Pennsylvania Library Association and the Our Lady of Peace Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history and watching movies, especially Westerns. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed spending time with his family and was loved by all.
In addition to his father, Gene is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ann (Wojtkielewicz) Zarnick; a daughter, Barbara Zarnick of Erie; a son, Gene G. Zarnick III of Windsor, Conn.; and siblings, David Zarnick and his wife, Judy, of Butler, Lori Blank and her husband, Dean, of Surprise, Ariz., John Zarnick of Butler, Kevin Zarnick of State College, Beth Zarnick-Duffy and her husband, Samuel, of State College and Missy Ault and her husband, Tim, of Mount Pleasant. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
ZARNICK - Friends of Gene G. Zarnick II, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., Erie.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 W. 38th St. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
