Ret. Capt. James Kevin "Fuzz" Foley, U.S. Navy, 57, of Lakeridge, Va., formerly of Chicora, died unexpectedly Feb. 15 at home.
He was a 1973 graduate of Karns City High School, a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he received a bachelor of science in oceanography and a 1985 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., where he received a master of science in physics.
He served 27 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a captain, having served in 14 duty stations. He was qualified in surface warfare and engineering duty, spending many years working in the Aegis Community. His military awards include three Navy Commendation Medals and three Meritorious Commendation Medals.
He was also a member of the Acquisition Professional Committee. After retirement from the Navy, Fuzz joined Alion Science and Technology, Washington, D.C. He managed several important programs for Alion and the Navy, including CG (X) DDG51 and most recently IWS3.0, the Navy's Surface Weapons Systems Program Office.
Fuzz was an active member of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Lakeridge, Va., serving as chairman of the eucharistic ministers, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and involved also with the Fellowship Committee. He spent many years coaching his children's soccer teams and assisting with their swim teams.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James T. and Mary C. Foley of Chicora.
Fuzz is survived by his wife, Lorrie (Fennell) Foley, also formerly of Chicora; and four wonderful children, Meghan of Denver, Colo., and Kevin, Lauren and Erin Roche (Patrick Roche), all of Northern Virginia.
FOLEY - The family of Ret. Capt. James Kevin "Fuzz" Foley, who died Feb. 15, 2013, received visitors at the Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, Va., with hundreds in attendance.
A funeral Mass was at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manassas, Va., with a reception following in the Church Social Hall. His interment will be in the fall at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., the weekend of his 35th class reunion.
