Marjorie "Marge" Ruth Dittmer, 91, of Slippery Rock, Worth Township, Butler County, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday after a three-year illness.
Marge, "always 29," was the daughter of the late Roy and Florence (Bryson) Grossman, and was born on July 31, 1927, in Brady Township, Butler County.
She married Wilbert (Whitey) Dittmer on Aug. 22, 1947, and they had four children.
Marge loved attending church at West Liberty United Methodist Church and when she was able, she was active in the choir. She was happiest singing the hymns in church.
She loved to clean and make sure everything looked good. She loved to laugh, make jokes and loved to give everyone's heart a jolt by scaring them, "BOO"!
She loved to play Kismet with family and friends. She would always play cards with her brothers and sisters and looked forward to their weekly games. She enjoyed scratching lottery tickets and going to casinos with family.
She was a proud American and loved to wave her flags.
Her favorite thing in life was to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She considered them a blessing to her in every way.
One of her favorite sayings was "Don't be afraid of the butter!" She loved butter on everything.
She is survived by her four children, Terry (Tammy) Dittmer of Germantown, Md., Shirley (George) Flynn of Slippery Rock, Walt (Jeanne) Dittmer of Slippery Rock, and Dan Dittmer of Slippery Rock; 12 grandchildren, Harry (Tunk) Benson, Lori (Marty) Morrison, Mike Dittmer, Erin Foster, Megan Dittmer, Denna (Harold) Gaston, Derrek (Taylor) Dittmer, David (Jamie) Dittmer, Jill Dittmer, Lisa Dittmer, Elizabeth (Joe) Mershimer and Nadezhda Dittmer; 14 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Mikayla, Kyle, Kelly, Ryan, Sam, Alex, Greyson, Emily, Dominick, Christian, Audrey, Logan and Liam; and three step great-grandchildren.
Her brother, Jack Grossman of Meadville; and her sister, Isa (Pete) Watson of Slippery Rock, also survive.
She is also survived by her extended family and friends, especially her close friend, Ellen McDeavitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Darlene, Mabel, Evelyn, Virginia, Dorothy and Pauline; and her brothers, Bob and Bill.
