Martha A. Beck
Martha A. Beck, 57, of Chicora died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, following an illness.
She graduated from Penn State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in computer science. She then received a degree in communications from Clarion University.
Marty worked for two years for WISR radio in Butler and then worked as a reporter for the Butler Eagle for several years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora, where she was a church organist and also accompanied the church choir, of which she also was a member.
She was born in Karns City, Feb. 28, 1955, the daughter of the late Thomas F. Beck Sr. and Harriette A. "Tillie" Freehling Beck.
She is survived by her daughter, Morgan and Benjamin Mann of Chicora; her sons, Jeremy Mills of Chicora and Lance Burtner of Texas; grandchildren, Olivia Mann, Luke Mann and Noah Cunningham, all of Chicora; and a brother, Thomas F. Beck Jr. of Chicora.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul R. Beck.
BECK - Friends of Martha A. Beck, who died Saturday, April 7, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora. Friends also will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in North Side Cemetery, Butler.
