Philip H. Buccini, 92, of Grove City died at 9:20 a.m. Friday at Quality Life Services of Grove City, formerly known as Trinity Living Center.
He was formerly of Cranberry Road in Grove City and also Pardoe, Mercer County.
Born in Butler, he was the son of Domenico and Josephine D'onofrio Buccini.
He was a 1944 graduate of Grove City High School.
He retired in 1987 after working 41 years for Bashlin Industries Plant 3, Grove City, as a leather worker.
Mr. Buccini was a proud veteran of World War II, having served as a radio man 3rd Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific. On the day of the Borneo invasion, his ship was the first wave to go in and unleash rockets to soften the beaches for the servicemen to go ashore.
Philip was a member of the Church of the Beloved Disciple of Grove City. He practiced his faith in Christ every day.
He was willing to do anything for others, always with a smile, telling a cute story and a "God Bless You" or "Have a Good Day" greeting.
He also belonged and was a life member of Grove City American Legion Post 220, VFW Post 519 of Grove City, the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Grove City, Knights of Columbus 3658 of Grove City and the former Grove City Elks.
He volunteered for many years with both United Community Hospital and Grove City Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Jennie Cemate Buccini of Grove City, whom he married June 14, 1947.
Also surviving are one sister, Pauline Harris of Mercer; his brothers-in-law, Michael Costello of Delray Beach, Fla., Clarence Ellington of Morehead, Ky., Sam Cemate of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Robert (Joan) Cemate of Westwood, Mass; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Buccini of Edgewater, Fla., Rose Middendorf of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Edna Cemate of Grove City. Numerous nieces and nephews, both blood and those who considered him to be an uncle through very close association, also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Domenic (Al) Buccini; and two sisters, Bernadine Ellington and Edith Costello.
BUCCINI - Friends of Philip H. Buccini, who died Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center St. Ext., Grove City, with the Rev. Michael Allison, his pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park in Grove City.
